Spencer Rochfort Chat Transcript
Chat with Little Men Fans | August 17, 1999

MODERATOR:Here he is.... Spencer Rochfort!

SpencerRochfort:Hi.

LeeM:Spencer, how many episodes of the new season have you filmed already?

SpencerRochfort:9

JS:I was just wondering, I hope you don't get mad Spencer but how old are you?

SpencerRochfort:32.

Dan:Hi Spencer! What was the hardest scene for you in Season one of Little Men?

_SpencerRochfort:During the snowstorm in Episode 10, Blame.

Danielle:Do you have any funny stories from previous LM acting experiences? If so, could you share one or two?

SpencerRochfort:Once, when I was helping Asia out of the wagon, she caught her dress and fell completely out onto the ground in the middle of town. She wasn't hurt but we all had a good laugh.

xenaekes:Hi Spencer, What is the hardest part about working with so many kids? Great work by the way!

SpencerRochfort:The hardest part is trying to remember all of my lines because the kids that I work with are always constantly conspiring to make me laugh.

Jace:Hi, Spencer. What or who was your influence in becoming an actor?

SpencerRochfort:James Bond.

Michelle:Are we going to learn more about Nick's past in future episodes?

SpencerRochfort:Absolutely. There are several episodes coming up that deal with characters from Nick's past.

teacherAnnie2:Are the three sisters (Meg, Jo, Amy) good friends in real life, and are they very much like their characters?

SpencerRochfort:The girls seem to be very good friends with each other. In some ways they're like their characters yet, more modern.

Emily73:Do you think you're like your character?

SpencerRochfort:There are certain elements of Nick that are very close to my own personality.

PoodleRun2:What are your interests; hobbies?

SpencerRochfort:Sailing, motorcycling, rock-climbing, travelling.

marilynkn:What have you found most difficult about filming a period show?

SpencerRochfort:The lack of sailing, motorcycling, rock-climbing and travelling...

Harmony:What do you think is your characters best and worst qualities?

SpencerRochfort:Nick's best qualities are his loyalty, honesty, and work ethic. His worst qualities are his impulsiveness, his propensity to solve his problems with violence and his single-minded view that what he believes is right is right.

teacherAnnie2:Do you have a pet?

SpencerRochfort:Yes, and his name is Max --- our star dog on Little Men.

Jace:Do you have any projects in the making as of now other than LM?

SpencerRochfort:Not as of yet. Little Men keeps me very busy.

pokemon:did you have to learn to ride a horse

SpencerRochfort:Yes, I had never ridden one before I started work on Little Men.

Harmony:Who do you get along with the best on the set?

SpencerRochfort:Max.

Michelle:Is your southern accent real?

SpencerRochfort:I was born in Ft. Worth, Texas but the accent Nick has is more of a generic Southern twang. I wanted the audience to feel that he could've come from anywhere in the South.

SG:What kind of project would you like to do if you had the time away from LM to do it?

SpencerRochfort:I would like to anything well-written and with some sort of social conscience.

Little Mary:What made you decide to be a part of the Little Men cast?

SpencerRochfort:I had a very long and serious conversation with Max and he decided it would be good for us. But, seriously, I thought the script was very well-written and I wanted to be involved with what I thought could be a show with a socially-conscious point of view.

gesl:Where did you train as an actor?

SpencerRochfort:I didn't.

PoodleRun2:Spencer, what is one of your all time favorite movies?

SpencerRochfort:The Moderns.

Harmony:If you couldn't have been an actor, what other job would you have picked?

SpencerRochfort:I would've been an off-shore sailor.

rachelm:How does Max get along with the kids?

SpencerRochfort:Famously. Max and the kids are very good friends.

Little Mary:How did you get involved in acting?

SpencerRochfort:I had done plays in high school but I didn't think I could make a living as an actor so, I took odd jobs until one day, I realized that I might be able to do better for myself than just sweeping floors -- so I walked into a theatrical agents office, with a hand-written resume and said, "here I am." Miraculously, I started to work on episodic TV and I have never looked back.

marilynkn:Cubit couldn't be here tonight. This is her question: "My two boys look up to Nick as a hero. What do you, personally, think of your responsibility to serve as a role model for your young fans in terms of the professional and personal choices you make?"

SpencerRochfort:Although I feel that people should be responsible for their own actions, there's no denying that a public personality does have a certain responsibility to maintain a positive role model for young people that may be looking up to him. Even still, people have to understand that actors are people just like they are, with their own flaws and weaknesses. But, thank you for an excellent question.

Lauren Brooke:What advice would you give to some aspiring actors?

SpencerRochfort:If you can see it in your mind's eye, it will happen. And that goes for anything anyone wants to do.

Emily73:Of the cast, who is most unlike their character in real life?

SpencerRochfort:The actors that I work with are so good at what they do they manage to bring parts of their real lives into their film lives and so the lines between reality and fantasy are so blurry that I cannot honestly answer your question.

sweetielf:Hi Spencer! :) You're a great actor!! :) If you could write an episode, what would you make it about? :)

SpencerRochfort:Max.

PoodleRun2:Spencer, can you cook and if you can, what do you like to cook, and what is your favorite food?

SpencerRochfort:I've been cooking for myself ever since I was a little boy. When my father told me, if you can read, you can cook; and my favorite food, ironically enough, is sushi.

LaurenS:so, i think a lot of us here are curious if you are single??

SpencerRochfort:Sadly, yes.

Lauren Brooke:What is your greatest fear?

SpencerRochfort:Trying my hardest and not being good enough.

Little Mary:What are the greatest differences between you and the character Nick?

SpencerRochfort:Nick is taller. (ha ha) I think Nick may not only be tougher but have a greater moral fiber than I do.

LeeM:Spencer, I saw the previews of the upcoming Season 2. It looks really exciting! Can't wait to see what happens with Nick and Jo! How many episodes are in one season?

SpencerRochfort:That's a question for the producer but, so far this season, we're contracted for 13 episodes.

rachelm:Do you like working with a bunch of kids?

SpencerRochfort:I love working with these kids.

kte28:Will we see more of a romance develope between Jo and Nick?

SpencerRochfort:Without telling you too much, the episodes that we've shot so far this season will definitely not disappoint you.

teacherAnnie2:Spencer, do you sing? What kind of music do you like to listen to?

SpencerRochfort:Only in the shower. My musical tastes run from Aretha Franklin to Lynrd Skynrd

NatFan2:The entire cast does a wonderful job, I want to thank everyone, for doing such a wonderful job. Even the background caracters, do wonderful jobs. Thank you all!!!

SpencerRochfort:Thank you, NatFan2. Please keep watching.

LaurenS:Is it hard to act out the romantic scenes with MRT?? Are there any funny moments in this??

SpencerRochfort:Whenever you do romantic scenes, with someone you've worked with for a long time, you often find humor in things that wouldn't ordinarily seem funny.

Lauren Brooke:DO YOU HAVE A ROLE MODEL?

SpencerRochfort:Yes I do and his name is Bud Williams.

Tue Aug 17, 1999 08:47:17 PM> MODMSG Michelle:Are you amazed at the outpouring of support for the show or did you know people would embrace it?

SpencerRochfort:I am pleasantly surprised at how well our little show has been received. It makes all of our hard work worthwhile.

Harmony:Elizabeth wants to know if you have any brothers or sisters

SpencerRochfort:Yes, I'm the youngest of 3 children.

Callie:Will you be shirtless in a future episode?

SpencerRochfort:I'm not sure, but you can count on me being shoeless.

mav:hi spencer....did u like working in acapulco heat??

SpencerRochfort:Acapulco Heat was a different sort of experience for me but I sure got a great tan.

Lauren Brooke:Are you worried about Y2K?

SpencerRochfort:YRU? (just kidding) When I originally learned about the Y2K problem, I was very concerned but I now believe that, at least, here in North America, the governments of the US and Canada are beginning to get a handle on how to control whatever situations may arise.

Jace:What was your favorite/worst subject in school? Were you a good student?

SpencerRochfort:My favorite subjects were English, History and Drama. My worst subjects were all the others. I was the kind of student who would get A's in certain subjects and F's in others so, I would have to classify myself as a special case..

Lauren Brooke:WHAT'S THE CRAZIEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE?

_SpencerRochfort:I've done many crazy things and picking the craziest would be really tough. Also, my attorney has advised me that I should be careful what I put down in print. (just kidding)

LaurenS:I think that you have done a brilliant job with the character of Nick and that you have brought much depth and perception to the character and i could not see any other acotr playing the part, keep up the great work and see you next year on the set( for our LM Convention)!!!

SpencerRochfort:LaurenS, thanks and I can't wait to see you then.

kte28:Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years time?

SpencerRochfort:Wherever I am in 10 years time, I hope to see myself happy and healthy because, there's nothing that can be more important that those 2 things.

MODERATOR:We have time for just three more questions.

Danielle:when is your birthday?

SpencerRochfort:December 9, 1966

carmen:Spencer, how tall are you?

SpencerRochfort:Not too tall and not too short. 5' 11"

Jace:Spencer, just want you to know you are a brilliant actor and I've enjoyed everything you've done so far. Hope to see you in Lm for a long time & anything else that comes your way. Keep up the great work and thanks for taking the time to chat with us.

SpencerRochfort:I'm glad I've had a chance to talk with all of you. Thank you for your support and your enthusiasm for our show.
